Giving a Presentation.

Duration: 2 day
  Course Dates: In-house only

 

Delegates will make three short presentations, recorded on video tape and played back. Covers: communication, planning, putting yourself across, nerves, questions, body language etc.
 


Course Programme
 
The course objectives are to:
  • let you see yourself giving a series of presentations
  • help you to avoid most traps and pitfalls
  • give you confidence by effective preparation of ideas and notes
  • help you to appear professional when nervous
  • show you how to reduce the stress of presentations
  • let you understand the use of visual aids
  • learn how to deal with questions
Introduction   Why do we have presentations?
     
1st video presentation   All delegates will give a two minute pre-prepared presentation. Playback and discussion.
     
Communication   What is it?
Where presentations fit in.
     
Planning and preparation   Structure - subject, objective, audience, timing.
Stages - intro., main, close.
Presenters' notes, visual aids.
The environment of the presentation.
     
2nd video presentation   All delegates will give an introduction to a presentation - assessment
     
Putting yourself across   the mechanics of speaking, body language, dealing with questions, nerves.
     
Video   A short film on presentation.
     
3rd video presentation   All delegates will give a 10 minute (max) presentation - assessment.

Making points in a presentation.
Use of notes. Do's and don'ts of visual aids.
         
2nd video presentation   Tutor briefing.
Each delegate prepares and presents the intro to a presentation.
Record and playback.
Assessment.
  The vital need to 'get off to a good start' by thoroughly preparing the intro. to a presentation.
         
Putting yourself across   Tutor input.
Individual discussion
  Using the spoken work.
Accuracy, brevity and clarity.
Diction, pronunciation, enunciation, tone, delivery etc.
Non-verbal communication - body language, posture, expressions, gestures etc.
Coping with nerves.
Dealing with questions.
Using visualisation.
         
Video   Short film on presentation.   Putting it all together.
         
3rd video presentation   Tutor input.
Preparation time for each delegate.
Delegates give a 5-10 minute presentation.
